Mozilla Campus Club – First Meet

Mozilla Campus Club - First Meet Dr.MGR University

Okay, most of you would have heard about Mozilla – the community of people helping to keep the internet healthy, open and accessible to all. A few days back, we had the first meet of Mozilla Campus Club held at our college, Dr. M.G.R. Educational & Research Institute to discuss on how we students can contribute to the development of open-source projects.

Campus clubs are nothing but local groups of students with a passion for technology working together to build the open web on University and College campuses worldwide. The first meeting lasted for about an hour and a half.

We discussed about various agendas such as elaboration of year plan on club activities, research on open source projects and division of committees. Also, various teams such as technology team, teaching team, outreach team and research team were formed to better manage the steps taken to reach the goals of these year-long activities.

There’s still some more work left to make the club fully functional. A marketing coordinator, event planner, club secretary, treasurer and campus outreach coordinator are some of the open positions available right now in the club.

There’s a whole lot of responsibilities ahead for us – to make the internet accessible to all, keep it open and healthy, innovate, contribute to open-source projects and leave an impact on the community. I’ve already started learning Rust, a systems programming language that runs blazingly fast, prevents segfaults, and guarantees thread safety which is also sponsored by Mozilla Research.

You can also contribute to this cause by having a look at Mozilla’s web innovations, reading the Internet Health Report, downloading Firefox web browser or donating to Mozilla.

Mozilla is a proud non-profit where throusands of people like you and me help them stand up to fight for an open web for all. They rely on donations from people like us to carry out their global mission. So, if you have got some money to play around with, please do donate today and make it count.
