How to increase blog traffic like a pro

As a blogger, you spend so much of time carefully selecting the topic and creating content. Later on, you format the post, make a few changes here and there so that your post looks presentable in front of your readers, do a spell check, hit publish and then double-check. So much of effort goes into creating each blog post. But what use it is if you cannot get it in front of many people? With no readers, the whole purpose of blogging gets defeated.

But I am sure you would have heard of bloggers getting thousands of page views per month. So, how do they do it? Well, they just know the trade secret but won’t reveal it to others. Even though the blogging community is very supportive, many pro bloggers do not want others to learn their secrets because they fear they may become their competitors – competing for the same traffic if they are in the same niche.

Well, you need not worry now. The basic fact is that these so-called pro bloggers write only certain types of posts which they believe would bring them a good amount of traffic and we are going to discuss them here.

Write how-to posts

When people are using the search engines, they are mostly looking for some information on how to do certain things. For example, if you are into cooking, you would be looking for information on how to cook certain dishes or if you are into blogging, most probably you are looking for some information on how to grow your blog, get more traffic or increase your subscribers.

Here are a few examples –

Publish case studies

Share your experience with your readers by publishing case studies on your blog. It can be related to anything but it’s better if it is closely related to your niche. Explain how you implemented something, the observations and what the outcome was – whether it was the desired outcome or not, etc. Check out these example case studies by WordPress.com VIP for a better understanding.

Write tutorials

Tutorials are nothing but detailed and lengthy how-to posts with images (screenshots) for each step usually published for guiding people to set up something (setting up a plugin/theme or connecting your credit card to PayPal, etc).

Here are a few examples –

Share listicles

Listicles, lists or list-format articles are nothing but a piece of writing or other content presented wholly or partly in the form of a list. I am sure you would have come across such posts when searching for things like – top 10 craziest movies of all time, 5 reasons why you should never brush your teeth, 20 things only a single boy understands, etc.

Create infographics

Infographics or information graphics are nothing but images such as charts, diagrams or graphics that can be used to represent data visually in a fun way without much emphasis on detailed text content. Infographics also play a big role in visual marketing. Also, read these 10 ways on how you can use infographics to boost engagement by TNW.

Publish posts in series

Instead of publishing everything at once as a single long post, you can break them into parts and publish them separately and connect them through a link at the bottom of the posts. For example, if I’m going to publish content on ‘how to become the greatest blogger of all time’ in my niche, I can break it into 2-3 separate posts and publish them as of how to become the greatest blogger of all time part-1 part-2, part-3, etc.

Share interviews

You can interview fellow bloggers or some influencers in your niche and share it on your blog either as a written format (posts) or as podcasts. If you are going to share it as podcasts, make sure you publish the transcript along with it so that people can follow the content even if they have problems with the understanding foreign accents.

Guest posting

You can either write for sites which accept guest posts or you yourself can accept high-quality guest posts for your blog. By writing for other sites, you can gain a wider audience for your site whereas accepting high-quality guest posts can provide more value to your readers. Either way, it is a win-win situation for yourself and the other person.

Create expert roundup posts

Expert roundup posts are nothing but normal blog posts but with input from multiple experts in your niche. In general, you should create a compelling question which should also be of value to your readers and send them over to experts in your niche and ask them for their insights on the same. Creating an effective expert roundup post can help you drive an insane amount of traffic to your site. Moreover, it will give your social engagement a super-boost.

Accept sponsored posts

Sponsored posts are nothing but posts which you publish on your blog in return for free services, discount or for a nice amount of money from companies and publishers. Sponsored posts are usually published to increase exposure and drive traffic and to a specific product or service from a certain company. For example, I am often contacted by WordPress themes & plugin marketplaces/sellers, WordPress hosting companies, email marketing companies, etc to promote their product or service on my blog in exchange for free themes & plugins, discounts, coupons, free premium accounts, etc.

By accepting sponsored posts, not only are you able to make free stuff from your content but also your post will be included in their social promotions. For example, if I’m accepting a sponsored post offer from a company having more than a million Twitter followers, then there are many chances for them to tweet out your content either directly or by adding them to their Buffer queue. Just imagine the reach your post will be getting from them.

Conclusion

Thus I hope that you found this post useful in helping you to drive an insane amount of traffic to your blog without using any black-hat SEO techniques.
