The Internet Messiah Returns: How Meta’s Muse Will Run Your Life

The Architect of Our Digital Lives

Some call him an evil genius, while others view him as an internet messiah. Regardless of where you stand, there is no denying that Mark Zuckerberg is a bona fide internet visionary. Although he has experienced his fair share of highly publicized stumbles like the early Oculus VR headsets and the massive investments in the Metaverse, he is back with a bang right when critics had completely written him off. He hooked millennials like me with Facebook, captivated Gen Z with Instagram, and seamlessly integrated Boomers into the digital age with WhatsApp. Now, it looks like the next generation will be entirely hooked on Muse, the groundbreaking latest addition to the Meta platform.

Turning the Tide in the AI Race

Everyone who was ridiculing him for burning through billions of dollars on the Metaverse is now singing his praises for this new tool. Until now, Meta didn’t have a flagship, agentic AI product to offer everyday internet users in the AI space. While they released open-source models for developers and simple chatbots across their apps, they lacked an assistant that could actually get things done autonomously. But this time, it’s entirely different. Even though he arrived a bit late to the agentic AI party, Zuckerberg knows the social tech game inside and out. It almost feels like the ecosystem is rigged in his favor. The expectations in the AI arms race are incredibly high, and boy, did he deliver an absolute blockbuster!

People are currently raving about Muse. Because it isn’t generally available everywhere just yet, users are intensely curious, trying desperately to get their hands on it through VPNs and various other clever workarounds. Early adopters have already started flooding X (formerly Twitter) with stories of how Muse seamlessly integrates with their everyday tools to help organize their hectic lives. Apparently, Muse has already helped some people discover that they were overcharged or wrongly billed for subscriptions, while helping others find the absolute best deals on Facebook Marketplace. People are even comparing Mark Zuckerberg to Steve Jobs, calling this the most groundbreaking technological shift since the iPhone was introduced and ChatGPT first became publicly available.

The Ultimate, Autonomous Personal Assistant

Muse acts as our very own personal assistant powered by AI – you can even give it a custom name and a unique avatar! However, for it to work at peak efficiency, it needs to know deeply intimate details about your life. If you’re like me, someone who readily embraces technological shifts, you probably won’t worry too much. But there is certainly a section of people who know just how far Meta’s reach extends into the daily habits of its users. To them, giving Meta this level of access feels like a privacy nightmare compared to using AI assistants from companies like Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic.

Unlike standard Generative AI chatbots such as ChatGPT and Gemini that simply answer your queries in the moment and essentially go to sleep right after, Muse is a fully autonomous agent. It continues working in the background to help you with everyday tasks, which in turn gives you precious time back to spend on the things you truly love doing. I also read an interesting architectural detail: each Muse agent apparently gets its own dedicated virtual hard disk and RAM in a secure virtual machine, rather than sharing computing space with other users’ agents.

Here are some of the most fascinating things I’ve come across that Muse can actually do for you:

  • Make dinner reservations at your favorite restaurants
  • Clean up your messy inbox and intelligently list the emails that require follow-ups
  • Order essential items and groceries online
  • Flawlessly organize your calendar and schedule
  • Navigate and actually talk with customer support representatives on your behalf!

Honestly, that last capability is truly unbelievable. However, I’ve come across multiple accounts and anecdotes detailing how Muse was able to jump through all the frustrating corporate hoops and speak directly with customer support associates at different companies. It successfully helped users arrange item pickups for returns (like Ikea), cancel stubborn subscriptions and secure refunds (like insurance providers), and even strike better deals on utility bills (like AT&T).

Although this powerhouse tool isn’t available in India just yet, I honestly can’t wait to get my hands on Muse and start playing around with its features. Hopefully, Meta rolls it out to India soon or makes it globally available so we can all experience this next-level assistant!
