Organic vs Paid Search: Which is better for bloggers

On the internet, there are broadly two types of search traffic which you can use to drive traffic to your blog – organic and paid search traffic. Organic search traffic is when you get traffic to your blog naturally from search engines results page without you spending money on advertising platforms like Google AdSense, Facebook Ads Manager, Twitter Audience Platform, Quora Ads, LinkedIn Ads, etc. Paid search traffic, on the other hand, is when you sign up with any of these advertising platforms and pay them money to display advertisements pointing to your blog when someone searches for related keywords related on their network. For example, you can use Google Ads to display pay per click (PPC) ads of your site on the search results page or you can use Facebook Ads Manager to advertise your posts on the newsfeed of people who match your criteria using their powerful set of targeting tools.

Is paid search traffic sustainable

Whenever you promote your posts with money on these platforms, the results are immediate. You can start getting hits to your website within an hour of getting your ad approved. You shell out a couple dollars a day and you get visible results in your site stats and it can even lead to conversions if you have set a goal. But is it really sustainable in the long run? I highly doubt it. You can’t keep putting your hard earned money into advertisements unless you have got some serious cash to burn. Once you have run out of money, your content won’t be able to grab as many eyeballs as it did when you had the money to play with.

Benefits of organic search traffic

Building organic traffic is not easier either, it can take years of hard work, good quality content, and effort. You must learn the ins and outs of SEO before you can start working on building up your traffic organically. It is so hard that most of the people will quit on the way and don’t reach the end to yield good results. But all these efforts you put in now will be worth it in the long run – you can establish yourself as an authority in your niche, you will be able to get more natural backlinks to your content, your domain age will be good, Google bots will frequent your site looking for new content, you will learn how to work smartly and automate some of your tasks, etc.

Having good content on your site means, you don’t need to worry about Google bringing in traffic to your site. If it is exceptionally good, you will naturally rank on the first page of Google. Even if it is not exceptionally good, you can keep updating your posts as and when you deem necessary with the latest content and Google will give your content more weight than other sites with old content. I have even seen posts which have not been updated in a decade yet they still rank on the first page of Google. It is mostly because of these two reasons – either their domain authority was high or their content was really good and users didn’t have to bounce back to the search results page and visit any other page to look for answers to their question. So, what I am trying to say is, just keep writing good content and your content will start to rank organically.

When your content moves up in the search results page organically, you can be well assured that it will receive traffic today, tomorrow and for the days to come. That’s the main reason why getting the organic traffic it is worth the effort you put into it. But this is not the case with paid traffic. Just because you have boosted or promoted your post today, it doesn’t mean it will be automatically boosted or promoted every single day to increase its reach from the previous day.

There are so many methods using which you can promote your content organically to get more blog traffic. These ways are often better rewarding in the long term when compared to paid traffic. Here are four basic methods using which you can grow your blog traffic organically – publishing original content, being consistent in sharing blog posts, guest blogging, and following Google’s guidelines. I’ll explain these methods in the below paragraphs.

Publish original content

I have repeated this every single time I talk about getting more traffic. Not only does Google love original content, but it will also help you rank for exclusive keywords without yourself realizing it. Publishing copied content on your blog can hurt your image. Imagine your reader recollecting the article she read earlier on some other blog while she is reading your content. She will definitely feel disgusted that you have copied someone else’s hard work and represented it as your own. No one likes to see you take credit for someone else’s work unless you have made some other improvements to it or have made a valuable contribution to the article’s making.

Forget the blogger who found out that you stole someone’s content. Once Google crawls your site and realizes that it is copied content, you can forget your chances of ranking well in SERP. It is absolutely frowned upon by Google. Gone are the days when you were able to rank well with copied content just because you had a good domain authority. Nowadays Google has got smarter thanks to its periodic updates to its search algorithm.

Share blog posts consistently

It is a well-known fact that Google likes fresh content. Make sure you keep your blog updated with fresh content. Even if you’re not able to publish a new blog post every three to four days, make sure you share something new once in a while; one post per week is enough as long as you are able to follow your schedule. This can help keep your readers updated with the latest information in your niche and they will consider you as a serious blogger who publishes quality content.

Guest post on other blogs in your niche

Guest posting on other high traffic or high domain authority can increase organic traffic. Moreover, you will be able to get high-quality backlinks from sites in your own niche. Don’t ever guest post on a blog which is not related to your niche or accepts guest posts from all niches (unless it is a large publication like Forbes or Entrepreneur). Backlinks always matter in SEO and contribute to your SERP rank no matter what others say, getting a nofollow link is worth it even if you are not able to get a dofollow link. Gone are the days when only dofollow links mattered. If the nofollow link is from a site in the relevant niche, Google is smart enough to understand that your content is relevant to the site on which you are guest posting.

Organic search traffic is the best
